BMX city dirt tracks

The city dirt tracks are a dedicated space in the Adelaide Park Lands where BMX bike riders of all ages and abilities can ride for free. The tracks have a series of jumps and trails separated into four areas based on skill level.

The tracks are built and maintained by the City Dirt Crew, a group of passionate volunteers who always welcome new riders and volunteers. If you want to know the intricacies of the tracks, which "lines" are the biggest challenge, and what's being worked on at the moment, visit their website.

Location and tracks

The tracks are located in Blue Gum Park / Kurangga (Park 20) in the southern Adelaide Park Lands. The tracks are closest to the corner of Unley Road and Greenhill Road.

There are four different tracks available. Please ride on the track that suits your level of ability.

  • Pump track (all skill levels)
  • Beginner track
  • Intermediate track
  • Advanced track

Tips and rules for riding

Always water the trails before and during a ride

Remove tarps from the jumps before riding and replace tarps after riding

Ride in the late afternoon when it’s cooler and less watering is needed

Don’t ride if it’s too wet – your tyres shouldn’t sink into the trails

Locked brakes chew up the trails so scope your runout

  • Help the volunteers and other riders
  • Don’t climb or walk on the jumps
  • Pick up your rubbish
  • Follow any signs

All riders must wear helmets and protective clothing at all times

Motorbikes and remote control vehicles are not allowed

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian

Users of this facility do so at their own risk. Off-road cycling and dirt jumping are high risk activities and may cause injuries. The City of Adelaide accepts no liability for loss or damage or injury caused by or in connection with the facility.

Healping out the City Dirt crew

The City Dirt crew are volunteers of the Adelaide City Dirt Jump Club who have created much of this space and look after it – all out of the kindness of their heart and because they love BMX. Follow the tips and rules for riding to show your respect to the people who've spent so many hours creating this space.

If you see one of the crew digging, ask to help – absolutely anyone can lend a hand.

Talk to City Dirt about becoming a more serious volunteer and you’ll never be short of mates to ride with again!

Looking after the jumps

Watering the jumps

Why water?
If jumps are not watered before and during use, the smooth hard packed surfaces of the lips and landings become brittle and it isn't long before they start to break up and become unrideable. The aim is to wet the jumps just enough to limit dust and soften the surface, without creating water runs or mud.

How to water
Under the bench seats is an open tool box. Inside the box is a hose for all to use. There are three water points around the perimeter park so one hose at each will reach all areas. Simply connect the hose and then spray the lips and landings you intend to ride. This may need to be done multiple times if you're riding for a long time or in the heat of the day. Please pack the hose away when your done and put the lid on the water outlet.

Tarping the jumps

Why tarp?
Tarps are used to protect the surfaces of the lips and landings. In summer they protect the jumps from anyone silly enough to be climbing on the jumps and in winter they stop the constant rain from washing away the smooth surface layer.

How to tarp
Tarps are dug into the ground behind the lip or landing and are weighed down by sandbags on the front. To use the jumps remove the tarps and sandbags and place behind the lips and landings. Please ensure you replace the tarps once you have finished riding.
