Bricks Through Time

Lucinda Penn

Blending branches, motors and bricks to signify the legacy of Southcott and the story of this place. Southcott Engineering, one of SA’s longest standing businesses was established in 1886 and its factories took up a large portion of this area in the South Eastern corner of the CBD, where this wall now stands. Some original buildings still remain amongst developments. The brick texture also connects in with the original infrastructure of the buildings, and then the decorative veneers that were placed on the wall which eventually fell off a few years ago. Overall nature ties this composition together as a harmony of a natural and mechanical balance.
